Information handled by the macOS app
UmClip works with the following kinds of information, all of which are processed and stored on your Mac:
- Screen content from the displays or windows you choose to record.
- Camera video when you enable the webcam, including the frames used for hand tracking while hand controls are on.
- Microphone audio when you enable the mic.
- System audio when you choose to capture it.
- Project data such as chapters, annotations, retakes, captions and edit decisions, saved alongside your recordings in your project folders.
UmClip does not currently send this information to UmClip servers or to third parties. Anything you export is a file on your Mac that you control.
Website data
This website is a static site. At this stage it:
- has no account system and no sign-in,
- does not use analytics or advertising trackers,
- does not collect payment details,
- does not set cookies of its own.
The hosting provider that serves the site may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time and requested page) for operational purposes.
macOS permissions
macOS asks you to grant each of these permissions separately. UmClip only requests a permission when a feature needs it, and you can change any of them later in System Settings under Privacy & Security.
Screen Recording
Required to capture the displays and windows you choose. Captured video is written to your local recording files.
Camera
Required for the webcam recording and for hand controls. Hand tracking runs on-device. Camera frames are used to produce your webcam recording and to detect hand position and gestures locally; they are not uploaded.
Microphone
Required to record your voice. Audio is written to your local recording files.
Accessibility
Used for presentation controls such as global shortcuts and cursor-related effects while recording. UmClip does not use this permission to read or collect the content of other apps.
Local storage
Recordings, retakes and project data are stored in project folders on your Mac. You choose where projects live and you can delete them at any time with Finder. Deleting a project removes it from your Mac; UmClip keeps no remote copy.
Future changes
UmClip may add features in the future that change how data is handled, for example optional sharing or sync. If that happens, this page will be updated before those features are released, and any such feature will be opt-in.
